Aston Villa defeated Bradford City , 2-1, but the Villans were eliminated on aggregate score in the Capital One Cup Tuesday. Bradford City , which has now knocked out three Premiership teams, will meet Swansea City or Chelsea in the finals.
Christian Benteke gave Aston Villa a 24th-minute lead. But Bradford City held on and countered early in the second half, James Hanson tying the score in the 55th minute. Andrew Weimann cut the deficit in the 89th minute.
The Bantams , who eliminated Premier clubs Wigan Athletic and Arsenal , held a 3-1 advantage (goals by Nahki Wells , Rory McArdle and Carl McHugh ) in the opening leg, Weimann also scoring in the 89th minute.
Joe Bennett delivered the cross and Benteke volleyed past Bradford goalkeeper Matt Duke for the opening goal. Stephen Ireland had the ball in the back of the net four minutes later following a mazy run from Bennett but the goal was offside. Duke produced a one-handed stop to deny Charles N ' Zogbia before doing the same with Ireland. A minute before halftime, Rory McArdle misjudged an Ireland cross into the box and the ball flicked off Benteke and inches wide.
Hanson headed in after Zavon Hines beat Bennett down the right and won a corner. Benteke cleared it for a second corner and Gary Jones ' delivery was headed in by Hanson.
Ireland almost pulled one back for Villa after fine work from substitute Darren Bent to play him in but he could only shoot wide from six yards out.
