The Los Angeles Lakers returned to winning ways in the NBA on Sunday, while the New York Knicks were also victorious.

Having entered their home clash against the Cleveland Cavaliers on the back of six straight losses, the Lakers cruised past their opponents 113-93.

The majority of the damage was done in the first quarter as the Lakers scored at will to open up a 37-20 advantage they did not relinquish.

Kobe Bryant led the way for the Lakers with 23 points, while big man Dwight Howard marked his return to the side with 22 points and 14 rebounds.

Guards Kyrie Irving and Dion Waiters top-scored for the Cavaliers with 15, while Alonzo Gee chipped in with 14.

Meanwhile, at Madison Square Garden , Carmelo Anthony scored 27 points to lead the New York Knicks to a 100-87 victory over the New Orleans Hornets .

Anthony poured in 18 points during the second quarter as the Knicks outscored their opponents 27-12 to set-up the easy win.

It was the Knicks first triumph since January 5 and helped them end a three-game skid.

Chris Copeland (22 points) provided Anthony with plenty of support, while Eric Gordon scored 22 for the Hornets.

Oklahoma City and Portland played out the closest match on Sunday, with the Thunder holding off a late comeback from the Trail Blazers to win 87-83.

Other winners on Sunday were Milwaukee , San Antonio , Brooklyn and Denver .

The Bucks came from 20 points behind to down the Toronto Raptors 107-96, the Spurs crushed the Minnesota Timberwolves 106-88, the Nets overpowered the Indiana Pacers 97-86 and the Nuggets used a late run to defeat the Golden State Warriors 116-105.
