Valencia defeated Mallorca 1-0 in their meeting in La Mestalla for the 24th journey date of La Liga.

Mallorca came out looking much better than the locals having several chances, especially through Giovanni Dos Santos, but Diego Alves, who returned to the starting lineup, prevented the opening of the score in favor of the visiting team.

During the first half Valencia had bad luck and by the end of the first 45 minutes, it had used up two of its changes, one of them due to a suffered injury by Rami that propelled young Sergio Canales into the pitch. Not to mention that Tino Costa (28') had received a red card and left Valencia with ten men.

But as luck would have it, Valencia, who had been suffering from the constant attack and numeric superiority of Mallorca, found the game opener through a corner kick cross from Sergio Canales that Ricardo Costa (60') would finalize in a header to put things 1-0 for the locals.

The dynamic of the match changed after the goal, and in the late minutes of the game, Roberto Soldado (80') would take advantage of an assist from Dani Parejo to score the final 2-0.

Valencia's Andres Guardado (90') then suffered an injury that would not allow his to continue, and left Valencia with 9 men in the last four minutes of the match.

The win was costly for the locals, as three of its main men will be sidelined in the upcoming weeks, with Valencia still having to face Paris Saint Germain for the second leg of the Champions League last 16 round.
