Recent history continues to hold true, and Rayo Vallecano fell 2-1 against Sevilla at Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán, a pitch where it has never been able to defeat the locals.

Chori DominguezThe first half was intense and balanced with both teams attacking and generating multiple options. It seemed the first half would end without goals, but in the last play, Ivan Rakitic saw Rayo's goalkeeper come forward out of his area, and in a mistaken pass, Rakitic (45+2) grabbed possession of the ball and perfectly elevated the ball past the reach of the goalkeeper. The home team took the 1-0 lead before half time.

Rayo Vallecano equalized early in the second half with a penalty kick awarded to Alejandro 'Chori' Dominguez (51'-PK). The former River Plate forward took the shot and put the score 1-1.

Alvaro Negredo (54') would save the day for the locals, scoring the final 2-1 after an assist from Koke, just three minutes after Rayo's equalizer.

This makes the second straight win for Sevilla in La Liga, and places it just seven points away from the teams currently in European Competition Zone.
